6 Reasons To Shop Suburban
You Get Family
We're very proud of our family-owned story, and it means we carry the highest standards for how we take care of our customers. It's a privilege to be able to serve our neighbors, friends, and family, and we hope to honor the legacy of our founders and history every time we are able to help a customer.
The Katz Years
Edward Katz founded the original Suburban Furniture circa 1950, a store that sold both furniture and appliances. Located at the corner of Route 10 and Main Street in Succasunna, Eddie (as he was known to his friends) was always known for treating customers the right way, often sending hand-signed thank-you notes in the mail after customers made a purchase.
The Luthys Enter the Furniture Business
Despite his background as an accountant, Ken Luthy Sr. had always enjoyed working with his hands- his first hobby was cars, but he also enjoyed woodworking. This hobby turned into a job in the 1980s when Ken, along with his wife Pat, started manufacturing and then selling a line of dining chairs to furniture stores in northern and central New Jersey. From there, Ken and Pat decided to open retail stores selling furniture and water beds, eventually expanding to multiple locations throughout northern and central New Jersey.
The Current Suburban Furniture
In the early 1990s, Ken and Pat consolidated all their locations to Eddie Katz’s building in Succasunna. Ken and Pat ultimately bought the building, expanded the business from one storefront to the entire building, and resurrected the Suburban Furniture name. The building now stands at over 38,000 square feet- still on the corner of Route 10 and Main Street in Succasunna, and has undergone several renovations and upgrades along the way, keeping it fresh and exciting for the community it proudly serves.
Today, the business remains in the family, being run by Ken and Pat’s son, Kenny. Suburban Furniture remains a mainstay in the Morris, Sussex, and Warren County areas, having frequently been celebrated as a local, family-owned business. Their focus remains on treating customers the right way, with over 2,000 online reviews. Children and grandchildren of Eddie Katz’s original customers come to celebrate our everlasting local legacy and to get furniture that will help them make new memories with their families. When you hear people encouraging you to “Shop Local,” Suburban Furniture should come to the top of your mind. Just as the local community has supported Suburban Furniture for nearly 75 years, so has Suburban Furniture given back to the community by supporting many local charities and organizations. Suburban Furniture hopes to continue this legacy for many years to come.
