Bedding Care Basics
In our hectic lives, why settle for less than the perfect night’s sleep? You’ve picked the right mattress for you. Now we’d like your mattress and foundation to be comfortable AND for years to come. Here are some bedding basics for you to use.
If your mattress is a two-sided mattress, flip and rotate your mattress on a regular basis. During the first month of usage, it is wise to do this on a weekly basis to provide even wear to all sides of the mattress. After that monthly is a good idea. Flipping means to turn it over while rotating means to make a 1/4 turn of the mattress while it lies flat on the bed.
When you need a new mattress, you need a new foundation. Foundations are meant to work with your mattress. If you don't replace your foundation at the same time as your mattress it could speed up the breakdown of your mattress or create an uneven sleep surface.
Due to the fact that most of us shed our skin, sweat in our sleep, or even eat in bed, it is also a good idea to protect your mattress with a mattress pad. This will prevent anything from working its way through your sheets and into your mattress, sometimes causing friction that will break down the mattress.
My mattress is sagging! More likely your mattress is experiencing body impressions. Body impressions are indentations in the mattress where you sleep most. Consider them not defects, but comfort impressions, contouring to your body for a better night’s sleep. Mattress manufacturers consider them normal and will not replace a mattress because of them.
Sometimes a brand new mattress will have a residual odor from the manufacturing process. It will dissipate over time.
Your new mattress may feel strange the first several weeks you sleep on it. Give it a month or so for your body and the mattress to get to know one another.
